The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds is a beautiful show written by Paul Zindel, first premiered in 1965. It tells the story of the chaotic home life of Tillie Hunsdorfer, a young girl infatuated with science. Tillie struggles with her bitter mother's constant abuse towards her daughters and their mute elderly boarder Nanny while preparing an experiment on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds for the upcoming science fair.
This was an intimate and brilliant telling of the story, with a gorgeous, somewhat unusual set built into the side of the Blackbox Theater. Although the small cast faced some setbacks after losing many rehearsals due to weather, under the direction of Darin MacFarlane and Grayce Tate, they managed to put on an undeniably successful play.
